The upcoming trends in the design and management of distribution networks in today’s unstable economic environment is the main subject of the survey “Distribution Networks 2010”. The survey was done among 235 companies and professionals from the logistics industry in May 2010. The target group of the survey included supply chain managers in production, trade and distribution companies from various industries, with particular focus on foods and beverages and retail. Respondents represent companies with an annual turnover starting under USD 100 million and up to USD 2.5 billion.

Transloading in Russian sea ports is set to grow by 30 mln. tons and reach 525 mln. tons by the end of 2010. That is the forecast of Rosmorrechflot, the Federal Agency for Marine and River Transport. “We must first pass the 500 mln. ton mark, and then aim for 1 bln. tons”, explains the manager of the Agency – Alexander Davidenko. By 2016 Russia will create the prerequisite for transloading of 770 mln. tons, including a 15% reserve capacity.

Experts are unanimous: in the near future China is set to become the largest logistics market in the world. For years China’s economy has grown at 10% p.a. A slight drop was experienced in early 2009 as a result of the global economic crisis. This, however, did not impact the long-term growth trend. Both producers and customers need transportation, commissioning, warehousing – and this means good times for logistics experts.
