Sofia Mel is one of the largest and one of the most modern mills on the Balkans. It was put into operation in 1986, and was privatized in 1998. Since May 2009 the company is owned by the Austrian company LLI Euromills.

The mill is located on 50,000 sq.m. just 2 km away from the center of Sofia. The technology and equipment are entirely provided by the Swiss company Buhler. The facility consists of 54 concrete grain silos with a capacity of 40,000 tons, 3 separate lines for grinding with a total capacity of 750 tons per 24 hours, 74 concrete silos for mill products with a capacity of 11,000 tons, and a warehouse for ready products on 4,000 sq.m. The company disposes of an ample infrastructure – auxiliary facilities and buildings, over 1,000 m of asphalted roads, and 1,400 m of own rails, as well as two locomotives. A direct rail line connects the company with towns in Bulgaria and abroad.

The company also has a laboratory with modern equipment which measures the quality of grain, the mill products, and flours.
