“Transparency in the supply chain” denotes a vision of a glass supply chain in which everything is clear – from suppliers of the raw materials to the end consumer of the product. The transparency of suppliers and clients helps optimize the stock and the processes in the supply chain. This is confirmed by the increasing presences in many industries of a much closer cooperation of the companies (efficient consumer response – ECR).

The main function of logistics and supply chain management is to guarantee supplies, the necessary resources. The overall transparency is primarily based on the transparency of operational stock and processes. Operational stock includes stock in warehouses, and the processes – production, sales and their respective cycles. This information can be used to improve short term planning and management of materials and stock flows.
